The Ricki Herbert Football Academy U-11s are heading for a thrilling finish to their participation at the Premier Invitational Tournament at Australia’s Gold Coast.

As the U-11 section of the tournament draws to a close, the academy team are contenders to win the Premier Plate after a run of three wins and a draw.

The team began Saturday’s tournament play with a 5-2 win against Western Pride with goals from Noah Amerika (2), Lucah De Roo, Lukas Dominikovich, and Jesper Edwards.

The boys then beat Northern Inland 4-3 in a thriller of a game with all four goals scored by Jesper Edwards.

The academy beat Burleigh 1-0 and on Sunday drew 1-1 with third-placed Kingscliff.

Those results left the team top of the Plate section with 10 points, one ahead of Magic Red.

RHFA and Magic Red were set to meet in the Plate decider in their final match of the three-day tournament.
