Tauranga have retained the Clive Herbert Challenge Cup after an entertaining match against Beachlands-Maraetai.
The cup is contested between talent centres within the Ricki Herbert Football Academy and is a great way for players from around the country to meet each other.
The latest challenge was held at Blue Rovers Football Club’s Pemberton Park in Tauranga on Sunday July 17, 2016.
The Shaun O’Brien-coached Tauranga team handled the cold conditions well and ran out winners with goals from Lucy Davis, Blake Davis, Tanner Dean, Makaha Gall, Finley Stanelun, Benji Gabb and Tyrone Laurent-Stokes.
Coach Sammy Negash brought an enthusiastic squad from Auckland and both teams were grateful to Blue Rovers FC for hosting the game and providing the pitch.
The coaches thank current academy player Kieran Brown for refereeing the challenge match and photographer Cynthia Qui for taking some excellent photographs during the game (which can be seen here).
Travelling and local supporters got behind their teams and helped make a great day of football.
