The Ricki Herbert Football Academy congratulates four players who have been part of the academy and are now heading to India to play in this year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Ricki Herbert’s Maldives U-23 side have headed home from India after failing by the narrowest of margins at the South Asian Games in India. Having reached the semi-finals of the tournament, the Maldivians lost to Nepal 4-3 in extra time and then the side were beaten in the play-off for third place at tournament, losing 7-6 on penalties to Bangladesh.
Ricki Herbert’s Maldives U-23 international team have progressed to the semi-finals of the South Asian games, despite losing their last group match 3-2 to hosts India. The Maldivians had beaten Sri Lanka 3-1 earlier in the group but India lost 1-0 to the Sri Lankans, ensuring Herbert’s team goes through to the knockout stage with the best record.
