About 65 Northland junior teams have taken part in the inaugural Aimee Lindsay Memorial Festival.

The festival, based at Tikipunga Sports Ground, was held to honour the memory of Aimee who died suddenly in 2019, aged 13.

She had been a promising footballer with the Ricki Herbert Football Academy and her Kamo Intermediate School team.

Northern Region Football’s area manager Dave Alabaster said the festival, held on Saturday September 24, had been enjoyable, especially for the many children who took part.

“I think it was a pretty apt and poignant remembrance for Aimee and a good way to finish the junior football season,” he said.

Players and spectators held a minute’s silence to remember Aimee.

Teams of U-9, U-10 and U-11 players came from as far as the Far North and Kaipara, as well as Whangarei.
