New centre to launch in Cambridge

Cambridge will become home to the next Ricki Herbert Football Academy (RHFA) Talent Centre.

Academy founder Ricki Herbert says the new centre will open next February, catering for boys and girls aged 7-14.

The centre will become the academy’s 10th in New Zealand, and will hold training days at St Peter’s, Cambridge, on Wednesday afternoons and on Sunday mornings.

Academy coaches will run the centre’s initial 8-week programme from Wednesday February 8 till Sunday April 9, 2016.

The launch of the centre follows Herbert’s appointment as full-time Director of Football at St Peter’s, and a complementary part-time role as Technical Director for Cambridge Football Club.

The RHFA centre will operate independently of the St Peter’s Football Academy and will cater for young players who are not students at St Peter’s.

“We want to give young players from throughout the Waikato the chance to benefit from our programmes and Cambridge is ideal because of its central location and excellent facilities at St Peter’s,” Herbert said.

Ricki Herbert is a former New Zealand international and professional footballer who has represented New Zealand at FIFA World Cup Finals both as a player and as a coach. His academies offer coaching, inter-centre competitions, holiday programmes and national camps.

They have partnerships with top English club Fulham and football clubs in South America.
