Kale Herbert leads Taupo to promotion at first attempt

Kale HerbertKale Herbert – head coach at the Ricki Herbert Football Academy – has achieved success in his first full season as a senior club coach.

His Taupo AFC team has clinched promotion to the Loaded WaiBOP Premiership with two games to spare after a 4-1 win against Te Awamutu.

Herbert, son of RHFA founder Ricki Herbert, was appointed coach of the Taupo side for this season’s WaiBOP Championship campaign.

The victory against Te Awamutu – with goals from Byron Thessman (2), Nick Field and Herbert – ensures Taupo will take second place in the competition unless they lose their two remaining fixtures by a combined margin of 21 goals or worse.

That’s not likely to happen with a Taupo side that has been the highest-scoring in the championship, notching up 15 wins and three draws from their 20 matches, and scoring 78 goals.

As well as coaching Taupo’s first team, Herbert and the RHFA provide coaching support for the club’s junior players.
