More than 70 aspiring footballers will gather this weekend in Taupo for the first Ricki Herbert Football Academy’s national camp to involve English Championship club Fulham.
Dave Wright, a coach with the London club’s academy, is attending the RHFA camp at Taupo AFC’s Crown Park to help assess the skills and potential of attending players who are all aged 7-12.
This follow’s the announcement early this year of an ongoing partnership between RHFA and Fulham which will see talented youngsters given the chance to visit the London academy.
RHFA head coach Kale Herbert said he was thrilled to be hosting the first camp involving Fulham and there was already a buzz of excitement as staff prepared for the arrival of players from around the country.
He said the academy was extremely grateful to the Taupo District Council for its support for the event, and to local club Taupo AFC for providing such a good venue for the camp.
Ebbett Volkswagen, the sponsors of Taupo AFC, had also been supportive and had taken an active interest in the camp.
Previous national training camps have been held in Taupo and Cambridge but the attendance of Fulham’s Dave Wright would help make this one special, Herbert said.
