Academy founder Ricki Herbert plans to attend the national training camp in Cambridge next month during a break from his commitments as the national coach of the Maldives.
The Ricki Herbert Football Academy will host a camp from April 17-21, 2016, for players aged 11-17.
The five-day residential camp will use the facilities of Cambridge Football Club for coaching sessions while players will use accommodation at the nearby St Peter’s School.
Herbert, who has been based in the Maldives since last September, is looking forward to seeing young players in action at the academy’s camp. His passion for developing young players sits well beside his role as the coach of a developing football nation.
It’s also an excellent opportunity for academy players to seek advice from the legendary former All White player and coach, whose exploits at the 1982 and 2010 FIFA World Cups are among the highlights of a long professional career.
The Halberg Award winner was named among the top 10 managers at the 2010 World Cup tournament in South Africa, and he has a coached professionally at clubs such as the New Zealand Knights and the Wellington Phoenix.
