Academy welcomes new Auckland coach Dylan Morris

Newly-appointed Dylan Morris knows exactly what he faces in his role as head coach for the Ricki Herbert Football Academy’s Auckland region.

Now 23, he still remembers the thrill of attending RHFA school holiday programmes when he was a young adult, learning how to play his football in Albany.

“I’m really looking forward to working with young players who want to learn how to play the game,” he says.

A young Dylan Morris enjoys an academy holiday programme almost 10 years ago.

Morris is taking over the academy role from Joe Hinds who’ll continue to work with the RHFA after his relocation to Hamilton where he has become head coach of academy partner club Hamilton Wanderers.

Morris plays for the Wanderers side coached by Hinds, and previously coached by the RHFAs technical director, Kale Herbert.

Since those academy programmes almost a decade ago, Morris has played football in the United States and in New Zealand’s National and Northern Leagues.

He played for Saint Kentigern College, Auckland, and was selected for the New Zealand U-17 squad.

After leaving school, he moved to the United States to play for the Georgia State Panthers (Division 1) and spent time with professional club Jacksonville Armada.

As a coach, he’s worked at the Western Springs Academy and Saint Kentigern College Academy, and at Wanderers.

“I want to continue to build a great environment for all of the young players at our talent centres,” he says.

“Joe Hinds has done a fantastic job with the academy in Auckland and with him getting the first-team job at Hamilton Wanderers I’m ready to take on this role.”

One-on-one coaching

As well as leading RHFA programmes, Morris is also available for one-on-one coaching sessions with players of all ages.
