Ricki Herbert played more than 60 international matches and was a member of the 1982 All Whites who became the first to represent New Zealand at a FIFA World Cup Finals tournament.
A strong central defender, Herbert was renowned for his athleticism (he was judged to be one of the fittest players in the squad) and for his professional attitude.
