Herbert puts in guest coaching appearance with club’s youngsters

Academy founder Ricki Herbert surprised a few young footballers in Cambridge this week with guest coaching appearances.

Since moving to Cambridge in early 2017, Herbert has been helping local football club Cambridge FC as their technical director, providing the club with advice about their coaching structure and how to provide the best coaching for the club’s 500+ senior, youth and junior players.

This week, Herbert took a couple of coaching sessions with young players to see first hand how they train at the club’s John Kerkhof Park headquarters.

On Tuesday, he worked with the club’s U-14 boys who have been struggling for points in the WaiBOP Federation Youth League and on Wednesday, he took a session with the Cambridge Clarets, one of the club’s junior sides.

“It’s been great fun,” Herbert said. “I always enjoy getting onto the training pitch and watching the pleasure when youngsters learn how to do something better.”

In July, the Ricki Herbert Football Academy ran a three-day holiday course at John Kerkhof Park, catering for 65 young players.
